South Carolina is not a well-used "public transit" state or bicycle state for that matter save a few who use what little public transit service there is...and cyclist who risk their lives daily and nightly on dangerous highways without bike lanes. South Carolina is a car craze state where most everyone drives, and the obesity rate is probably higher than every state in the union save Mississippi, the poorest state in the United States. When gas prices rose from 2.05 a gallon to 2.79 a gallon at Sam's Quick Stop, there was sheer panic from customers rushing to fill their cars with gas from the after effects of Texas's Hurricane Harvey where the oil comes from. In some parts of City of Florence stations ran completely out of gas. Some customers fear prices will rise as high as $9.00 a gallon until Harvey catastrophe is fixed. For those of us walking or biking there was little concern or worry about gas prices ... as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Kingsburg at night and those stars in the sky.
