At first sight I wasn’t sure how to get a tiny frightened bird out of this situation... except I didn't panic even if the bird was freaking out. I knew I had to do something.
I needed something long and hard... like a broom handle. The one I just bought. And I needed my gloves. I pushed the handle into the black area below the grill where the bird's claw foot was caught and that released it. Fortunately, the car alarm of the person who owned the car didn't go off... Now on the asphalt at my feet the bird chirped wildly...yet looking up at me as it hopped around in relief (or so I hoped). I was worried it couldn't fly, but then I pushed it gently and it started up and flew off into the night.
