Sheep Meadow in Central Park, open from May to mid-October, admits up to 30,000 people per day during summer months. During its tumultuous history this expansive 15-acre field was once inhabited by sheep from 1864-1934 and anti-Vietnam war demonstrators burned the American flag in the Meadow during a 1967 demonstration. In 1969 the first landing on the moon was televised to a large crowd at Sheep Meadow. Today ,the meadow is used for sunbathing, kite flying, and relaxing summer picnics and offers a great 360 degree photo opportunity of New York. Gallery
